Leading the way in the UK The Glasgow School of Art is preparing their students with sought after Unity Technology skills

The Glasgow School of Art has just signed to become our first Unity Academic Alliance (UAA) partner within the UK.

The UAA is made up of a consortium of forward-thinking, post-secondary education institutions that are committed to furthering their interactive design or development programs by teaching Unity. By joining this program, alliance members receive exclusive Unity benefits and resources that will allow them to implement Unity into their curriculum, either for the first time or deepen the existing curriculum.

Unity Technologies is the creator of the world’s leading real-time 3D development platform, giving users the most powerful and accessible tools to create, operate, and monetize experiences for the real-time world. Enterprises are fiercely reinventing how to adopt and apply opportunities introduced by AR and VR and Unity is at the forefront of this innovation by powering 60% of all AR/VR content. Enterprises are fiercely reinventing how to adopt and apply opportunities introduced by AR and VR. The Glasgow School of Art is leading the way by equipping their students with skills needed to create these new immersive experiences.

The School of Simulation and Visualisation at The Glasgow School of Art is an intense learning and research environment that exploits the interface between science, technology and the arts to explore imaginative, novel and creative uses of advanced 3D digital visualisation and interaction technologies. The ability to offer their students Authorized Unity workshops will enhance their courses and fits perfectly with the programmes they are already running. Students will gain access to high-quality, up to date learning material written and maintained by Unity. Their instructors will also be certified by Unity – so they will be learning from the best.

“Unity has been a great fit for us at The Glasgow School of Art because it allows our students to concentrate on the creative and artistic aspects of their work while easing them into some of the more demanding technical aspects of 3D, AR, and VR development. When I think about where we were 10 years ago, I don’t think a programme like ours would have been feasible back then. Modern tools like Unity now make it possible, and we’re very excited to be joining the UAA program. I can’t wait to see where we go in the next 10 years.” said Brian Loranger, Visualisation and Serious Games Lecturer, School of Simulation and Visualisation, The Glasgow School of Art.

Employability is the key and Unity are incredible excited to see The Glasgow School of Art to choose their first Unity student ambassadors. These program advocates are chosen based on their achievements as Unity creators and community organizers who are eager to help others learn to create with Unity as well. Ambassadors receive training, access to industry events, and join a global community of other Unity Student Ambassadors to further the Unity mission to democratize game development and XR.

The community of Unity Academic Program Members brought by KnowledgePoint CONNECT are growing fast in EMEA. “Unity and The Glasgow School of Art are a text-book example of how industry and academia are working together bridging the skills gap, opening opportunities for the young to entrepreneurism and innovation. We much look forward to growing the Unity footprint in academia and representing the program shortly also at the BETT 2020 show” said Tuuli Eaton, Head of Marketing and Client Engagement at KnowledgePoint Ltd.

“We welcome Glasgow School of Arts to join the Unity Academic Alliance, a group of forward-looking, innovative academic institutions who are looking to implement Unity into their curriculum,” said Melissa Oldrin, Senior Manager, Global Education, Unity Technologies. “The ability to empower tomorrow’s workforce with the skills to master real-time 3D technology is invaluable and we’re excited to see Glasgow School of arts provide students with the tools necessary to kickstart their careers.”
